Martin Conboy Lighting Design (MCLD) is an internationally recognized Canadian lighting design and theatre consultancy firm that has been active for over 30 years. Founded in the 1980’s, MCLD has received numerous international awards for its work.
The firm is proud to provide its services to some of Canada's leading architects, engineers, interior designers, contractors, Design-Build teams, as well as government organizations and homeowners. MCLD is notable for its unique style of lighting that was developed from and continues to be informed by theatre practices. Our team continually evolves to respond to a dynamic world of new technologies. This is manifested in the diversity of our portfolio, with projects that range through the areas of culture, education, commercial, residential, theatrical, institutional, urban planning and the public sphere. We have built a reputation based on our ability to work as a key member of a design team and integrating with a wide variety of specialists and clients.

MCLD approaches the craft of illumination with the conviction that good lighting should offer more than illumination. Since the inception of the firm, Martin Conboy has encouraged his designers and associates to visualize the needs of an assignment without allowing presumptions of equipment or how that equipment has been used in the past to be a motivating force. The studio's creative design background is enhanced by a technical proficiency in the analysis of light, and the capacity to convey the issues at hand into a narrative that non-specialists can easily understand. This skill is augmented by our depth of experience with the design process, lighting control systems, life cycle cost analysis, luminaire design, and the ability to craft solid technical specifications.
