Our Team

Our experienced team of associates and designers are ready to assist with any lighting design or theatre project. MCLD has a high standing within the design community, which has been obtained through the hard work and character of the team of designers and associates. The varied backgrounds of our staff enables each member of the team to bring a unique perspective towards a design experience. Our studio environment fosters a collaborative atmosphere, encouraging each member of our team to bring forward the unique perspective afforded to them by their varied backgrounds.


Principal

Martin Conboy
Principal, Lead Designer (Lighting and Theatre Consulting)

Martin Conboy is founder and principal designer Martin Conboy Lighting Design (MCLD) and a key member of our theatre consultancy.  He has over 35 years of experience as a lighting designer for architecture, theatre, AV and special events. Martin is an active theatrical lighting designer and draws extensively from this background while working on architectural lighting design projects. He brings a passion and curiosity to his work which is driven by a strong aesthetic sense and leavened by a thorough understanding of the practicalities and principals of electrical and building science.  Martin has received numerous awards for his lighting projects and been published in lighting industry journal, Lighting Design + Application (LD+A) and has written articles’ for local and national media such as CBC and Ottawa Citizen. He has taught lighting design as an invited sessional and master class instructor at the college/university level since 1990 and conducted national workshops in lighting for Architects across Canada through the auspices of RAIC.

Hugh Martignago, B.Arch- Design
Lighting Designer

Hugh is a lighting designer with MCLD. Since joining the team in 2015, Hugh has used his technical, representational and organizational skills in the design, specification, and implementation of many MCLD projects.

Hugh is involved in all phases of MCLD’s architectural and theatrical lighting projects, in addition to its theatre consulting. Hugh is currently working on several high-profile architectural projects, including lighting design for the Nepean Point rejuvenation in Ottawa, Massey Hall in Toronto, and the new Algonquin Athletics and Recreation Centre in Ottawa. In addition to his architectural lighting experience, Hugh has worked with principal Martin Conboy in providing lighting design for over 15 theatre shows across the country.

Scott Windsor, B.Arts – Drama
Senior Theatre Design Consultant, Production Manager and Event Co-ordinator

Scott Windsor is a Senior Theatre Design Consultant, Production Manager and Event Co-ordinator working in the performing arts and related fields for over thirty years.  Scott has worked with architects and engineers providing design consulting services for professional, college and high school theatres and for distance learning and video conferencing facilities.

Scott‘s experience in the design, base-building construction and specialty fit-up of theatre spaces coupled with a long hands-on career in the performing arts as stage manager, technical director and production manager provides him with the insight into and a working knowledge of the requirements to help create safe and enriching theatre environments for professionals, students, staff and community stakeholders.  

Starting with client and stakeholder consultations, to help articulate functional requirements, through to final design, tendering, base-building construction and specialty fit-up. Mr. Windsor provides a complete range of design, drafting, specification and co-ordination and oversight expertise to help realize even the most complex projects in a timely and efficient manner.
