George Brown College
George Brown College
Client: KPMB, Stantec Architecture in joint venture
Services: Interior architectural lighting, exterior architectural lighting
Location: Ottawa
Description:
In 2012, George Brown College, an urban community college with three campuses in downtown Toronto, expanded its properties with a fourth campus dedicated to the health sciences located on the shore of Lake Ontario. MCLD was contracted to provide interior and exterior lighting design for this new building. Our goal was to make the building a 'gem' in the night, a building which would stand out along Toronto's rapidly evolving waterfront. To accomplish this goal, all of the interior lighting was designed to light specific surfaces in the building. As a result of this strategy, when looking at building from outside at night, the interior is clearly visible, making the building stand out as intended. During the day, the exterior facade becomes a veil, maintaining proper lighting levels for classes.
